Lauren Young - An Interview with the Artist behind Jadewood's FLORA print

As I have said before, I absolutely love to collaborate with talented folk. Lauren is another gorgeous creative lady who adore's water, light, colour, paint and life's beauty. For the past 12 years I have had the pleasure of watching her talent grow, and I am proud, and quite chuffed to say that we have finally been able to collaborate on this wonderful project together. Lauren is the artist behind this season's enchanting fabric print.

How long have you been painting for?

I have been painting for 10 years

What is your favourite medium?

My favourite medium to create with is oil paints

Tell us a little about your practice?

I love creating images with paint and exploring the medium in all its ways and brush strokes. Finding subject matter that evokes some sort of story or magic like quality. Lately I've been drawn to water and moments where the sun catches the light.

Where do you find artistic inspiration?

I find inspiration from fellow painters (big fan of del Kathryn Barton) and in a lot of stories I read. Lately George MacDonald had been blowing my mind with 18 century surreal fantasy.

What is your favourite outdoor activity?

Getting lost in rockpools (both sea and mountain kind)

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

Artist Del Kathryn Barton is a huge inspiration, while there's not many obvious links to my work now, I love her detail, sense of colour and plain courageous style for figurative painting. Her Nightingale series is just stunning!

What is your spirit animal?

A sleepy house cat.
